Celebrating women social entrepreneurs on our 10th anniversary!

FEM international is proud to announce its 10th anniversary at Ecomusée du Fier Monde from 5pm to 9pm on November 19th, also dedicated as International Women Entrepreneurs’ Day by the UN. On this day, we will not only celebrate FEM’s work, but we will also highlight women social entrepreneurs who have had an impact and changed lives in Canada and abroad.

FEM International is an organization that empowers women and girls internationally through social entrepreneurship. This interactive and bilingual event which is organized in collaboration with Ashoka, Femmessor and LORI.Biz will give participants a chance to hear and exchange with leading women social entrepreneurs on their successes, challenges and lessons learned.

Mariouche Gagné from Harricana is our spokesperson and Diane Bérard, columnist  from Les affaires, will be hosting this cocktail-conference. Our guest speakers include Tatiana Fraser, Ashoka Fellow and Founder of the Girls Action Foundation, Sunshine Tenasco, Aboriginal Founder of Quemeez and Her Braids, Jess Tomlin, Executive Director of Match International Women's Fund, Laure Cohen Van Delft, President of Femmessor, and Lis Suarez, FEM International’s founder and an Ashoka Fellow.

It is important to note that, according to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) report on social entrepreneurship, research shows that there are more men than women involved in the entrepreneurship. However, the gender gap is reduced when looking at the sector of social entrepreneurship, particularly in the United States or China, where the gender ratio is practically equal in this sector. In certain countries, such as Lebanon, Argentina or Iceland, women outnumber men in the domain of social entrepreneurship.

In addition to demonstrating gender equality, the social entrepreneurship sector is thriving in the current ecosystem where entrepreneurs benefit largely from government support. This is the case in Quebec where we are starting to see the emergence a new ecosystem which is encouraging and supporting the creation of social enterprises.

FEM International is grateful for the contribution of Quebec’s Minister of Justice and Minister responsible for the Status of Women, Mrs. Stéphanie Vallée, Defacto Digital Marketing Agency and Caisse Desjardins de Lorimier-Villeray.

Join us in celebrating this movement of women leading change !
